How we picked rideshare dash cams

We filtered our 34-cam database to the ten models with a cabin camera of at least 1080p and ranked them on our published 11-metric rubric, which weighs front resolution, STARVIS 2, channel count, buffered parking and heat tolerance most. The method is on our how we evaluate page.

Beyond the score, we compare cabin specs: resolution, sensor, field of view, infrared and HDR. Those are what decide whether a back-seat incident is identifiable at night.

VIOFO A229 Ultra 3CH

STARVIS 2 sensor
Yes
Coverage (channels)
3
Buffered parking mode
Yes

A three-channel dash cam that records 4K front, 4K rear and 1080p interior video, with STARVIS 2 sensors on all three cameras. It suits rideshare drivers who want 4K behind the car as well as ahead.

Strengths

  • 4K 30fps front and rear on STARVIS 2 IMX678 sensors
  • 1080p interior camera on a STARVIS 2 IMX662 with a 210° field of view
  • HDR on all three channels
  • Buffered, time-lapse and low-bitrate parking modes

Watch out for

  • Parking mode needs an optional HK4 or HK6 hardwire kit
  • Interior camera is 1080p while the A329S 3CH records 2K inside

The A229 Ultra 3CH scores 9.7, the top score in this group, and it’s the only cam here with 4K on both exterior cameras, both on the IMX678. That matters at a curbside pickup, where the driver who rear-ends you is as real a risk as the passenger behind you.

Its cabin camera is 1080p, but on a STARVIS 2 IMX662 with a 210° view and HDR, a newer sensor than the IMX307 in the A229 Pro 3CH. IR isn’t listed on its spec sheet, so drivers who work mostly at night should look at the T330 below.

VIOFO T330 3CH

Buffered parking mode

A screenless three-channel dash cam with 4K front, 2K rear and a 2K 210° fisheye cabin camera with IR LEDs, all with HDR. It suits rideshare drivers who want a discreet camera managed from the app.

Strengths

  • 4K front, 2K rear and 2K interior at 30fps on STARVIS 2 sensors
  • 210° fisheye interior lens with IR LEDs
  • Wi-Fi 6 on 2.4GHz and 5GHz, built-in GPS and voice control
  • Five parking modes including hybrid, buffered, time-lapse and low bitrate

Watch out for

  • No display; setup and playback are done through the app
  • Parking mode needs the optional HK6-F hardwire kit

The T330 3CH records 4K up front, 2K at the rear and 2K inside, all at 30fps on STARVIS 2 sensors, with HDR on every channel. Its 210° fisheye cabin lens has IR LEDs, which is what lets a cabin camera see faces when the car is dark. It scores 9.3, and it’s the only cam in this roundup whose spec sheet lists both cabin IR and HDR on all three channels.

There’s no display, so setup and playback happen through the VIOFO app over Wi-Fi 6. For rideshare that’s mostly an upside: there’s no glowing screen for passengers to fiddle with. It has built-in GPS, voice control and five parking modes including hybrid; parking needs the HK6-F hardwire kit.

#3

Best 2K cabin camera with a screen

VIOFO A329S 3CH

9.3Dashlore Score
Front resolution
2,160 px
STARVIS 2 sensor
Yes
Coverage (channels)
3
Buffered parking mode
Yes

A three-channel dash cam with 4K front, 2K rear and a 2K 210° fisheye cabin camera, all on STARVIS 2 sensors with HDR. It suits rideshare drivers who want wide cabin coverage and high-resolution exterior footage.

Strengths

  • 4K front, 2K rear and 2K interior, all at 30fps with HDR on every channel
  • 210° interior field of view on a STARVIS 2 IMX675 sensor
  • Wi-Fi 6 and support for an external SSD up to 4TB
  • Five parking modes including hybrid, buffered, time-lapse and low bitrate

Watch out for

  • Parking mode needs an optional HK4 or HK6 hardwire kit
  • Supercapacitor with no internal battery

The A329S 3CH matches the T330’s 2K, 210° cabin camera, on a STARVIS 2 IMX675 with HDR, and adds a 2.4-inch screen for checking angles and reviewing a clip on the spot. It scores 9.3, and it’s the only cam here with a 2K cabin camera and a screen.

The spec sheet doesn’t list cabin infrared, which is why the T330 ranks ahead of it for a job done largely after dark. In its favour, it supports an external SSD up to 4TB, useful if you want days of three-channel footage before anything overwrites. Rear is 2K on an IMX675.

#4

Best for full cabin coverage

Vantrue Nexus 5S (N5S)

8.3Dashlore Score
Front resolution
1,944 px
STARVIS 2 sensor
Yes
Coverage (channels)
4
Buffered parking mode
Yes

A four-channel dash cam that records the road ahead, the front and rear cabin, and the road behind on STARVIS 2 sensors. It suits rideshare and fleet drivers who want full interior coverage.

Strengths

  • Four channels: 1944p front, two 1080p cabin cameras and 1440p rear, all at 30fps
  • Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 front and rear, IMX662 in both cabin cameras
  • Buffered motion detection, low-bitrate and low-frame-rate parking recording
  • 3.19-inch screen, dual-band Wi-Fi, built-in GPS and voice control

Watch out for

  • Parking mode needs a hardwire kit, sold separately
  • LTE needs an add-on 4G module
  • Front tops out at 1944p, not 4K
  • Vantrue specifies WDR rather than HDR on the front and cabin cameras

The Vantrue N5S is the only 4-channel cam in our database. It uses two 1080p cabin cameras on STARVIS 2 IMX662 sensors, one for the front seats and one for the rear, plus a 1944p front and 1440p rear. It scores 8.3. The 1944p front, a 1440p rear and WDR rather than HDR hold it back.

Two cabin cameras matter in a minivan or three-row SUV, where a single fisheye at the windshield sees the third row small and distorted. It has a 3.19-inch screen, voice control, microSD up to 1TB, and buffered, time-lapse and low-bitrate parking.

#5

Best 4K cabin camera

BlackVue Elite 10 Cabin

8.4Dashlore Score
Front resolution
2,160 px
STARVIS 2 sensor
Yes
Coverage (channels)
2
Buffered parking mode
Yes

A screenless two-channel dash cam pairing a 4K STARVIS 2 front camera with a 4K infrared interior camera. It suits rideshare and fleet drivers who want high-resolution cabin footage with BlackVue's app and optional cloud.

Strengths

  • 4K 30fps front with HDR and 4K 30fps interior camera
  • Interior camera uses an OmniVision OS08E10 Nyxel sensor with a 160° diagonal view
  • Motion and impact detection with a 10-second pre-event buffer, plus time-lapse
  • Dual-band Wi-Fi, built-in GPS and microSD up to 1TB

Watch out for

  • No rear-window camera; the second channel faces the cabin
  • Cabin camera does not record HDR
  • Parking mode needs hardwiring or a compatible battery; LTE needs the optional CM100G module

The BlackVue Elite 10 Cabin has the highest-resolution cabin camera we track: 4K infrared on an OmniVision OS08E10 Nyxel sensor with a 160° diagonal view. Its front camera is 4K STARVIS 2 with HDR. It scores 8.4.

The catch is coverage. It’s a 2-channel cam whose second channel faces the cabin, so there’s no rear-window camera, and the cabin channel doesn’t record HDR. It suits drivers who mostly need passenger evidence and value BlackVue’s app and optional cloud (LTE needs the CM100G module).

#6

Best all-in-one cabin unit

VIOFO T340 3CH

9.3Dashlore Score
Front resolution
2,160 px
STARVIS 2 sensor
Yes
Coverage (channels)
3
Buffered parking mode
Yes

A screenless three-channel dash cam with a 4K front camera, a 2K rear camera and a built-in 2K infrared cabin camera with a 210° view. It suits rideshare drivers who want an all-in-one front and cabin unit.

Strengths

  • 4K front on a STARVIS 2 IMX678, 2K rear on a STARVIS 2 IMX675, 2K interior, all at 30fps
  • Built-in IR interior camera with a 210° field of view
  • Wi-Fi 6 on 2.4GHz and 5GHz, built-in GPS and voice control
  • Five parking modes including hybrid, buffered, time-lapse and low bitrate

Watch out for

  • HDR on the front plus only one of the interior or rear cameras
  • Interior camera uses an OmniVision OS04J10 sensor
  • No display; parking needs the optional HK6-F hardwire kit

The T340 3CH builds a 2K infrared cabin camera with a 210° view into the main windshield unit, so there’s one less module and cable to mount. It scores 9.3 with 4K front and 2K rear.

Two trade-offs versus the T330: the cabin sensor is an OmniVision OS04J10 rather than a STARVIS 2, and HDR covers the front plus only one of the cabin or rear cameras. It’s the tidiest install; the T330 has the stronger spec sheet.

Most lines in the table are identical, which is why four of these models share a 9.3. The cabin specs are what separate them for rideshare:

Model Cabin resolution Cabin sensor Cabin view IR listed Cabin HDR
VIOFO T330 3CH 1440p STARVIS 2 210° Yes Yes
VIOFO A329S 3CH 1440p STARVIS 2 IMX675 210° No Yes

“No” in the IR column means the manufacturer’s spec sheet doesn’t list it.

Do you need a 3-channel dash cam for rideshare?

Yes, for nearly every driver. Your risks come from three directions: the car ahead, the car behind at a curbside stop, and the passenger in the back. A front-and-rear cam misses the passenger. A front-and-cabin cam such as the Elite 10 Cabin misses the rear. Our rubric gives full coverage credit at three channels for that reason.

The cheaper 3-channel options trade other specs. The A229 Plus 3CH drops to 1440p up front and uses the older IMX307 inside (8.0). The 70mai T800 has 4K front and rear but no buffered parking mode (8.4). The WOLFBOX G900TriPro mirror cam lists only impact-triggered parking (7.2). For all three-camera options, including non-rideshare use, see our dash cam rankings.

How good does the cabin camera need to be at night?

Most rideshare incidents happen after dark, when a cabin lit only by streetlights gives a normal sensor almost nothing to work with. Three specs matter, in order:

  1. Infrared. IR LEDs light the cabin with light your passengers can’t see, and the camera records a clear monochrome image. Without IR, a dark cabin is mostly noise however good the sensor.
  2. Resolution. A 210° fisheye spreads its pixels across the whole cabin. At 1440p, there’s a third more vertical detail than at 1080p for identifying a face.
  3. Sensor. STARVIS 2 sensors like the IMX675 and IMX662 handle low light better than the older IMX307.

By that order, the T330 3CH and Elite 10 Cabin lead. Our night vision dash cam guide covers the exterior side of low-light recording.

Do you have to tell passengers you are recording?

Video and audio are treated differently. Recording video in your own car is generally lawful; audio is covered by wiretap law, and that’s where states split.

Federal law lets you record a conversation you’re part of: 18 U.S.C. § 2511(2)(d) makes it lawful where the person recording is a party to the communication. But states can be stricter. California’s Penal Code § 632 makes it a crime to record a confidential communication without the consent of all parties. Its definition of confidential excludes situations where the parties may reasonably expect to be overheard or recorded.

That’s the practical case for a visible “audio and video recording in progress” notice on a rear window or seatback: it tells passengers up front. Rideshare platforms can also set their own rules on recording, so check your platform’s current policy for your market. If in doubt, switch off audio on the cabin channel; every pick here records video without it.

How do you power a rideshare dash cam for a full shift?

Hardwire it. Every cam in this roundup runs on a supercapacitor with no battery, so it needs power the whole time it’s recording, and each needs a hardwire kit for parking mode. A hardwire kit taps the fuse box, frees your 12V socket for phone chargers, and hides the cable from passengers.

A few practical points:

  • Use the maker’s kit. VIOFO specifies the HK6-F for the T330 and T340, and the HK4 or HK6 for the A229 and A329S lines. Our hardwiring guide covers the install.
  • Set a low-voltage cutoff. Hardwire kits switch the cam off before the car battery drops too far to start the engine. Choose a higher cutoff if the car sits for long stretches between shifts.
  • Think about heat. A rideshare car parked between shifts bakes. Published maximums are 65°C for the VIOFOs and the BlackVue and 60°C for the Vantrue.

Screen or screenless for rideshare?

Both work, and the choice is about passengers as much as you. A screenless cam such as the T330 3CH or T340 3CH has nothing for a passenger to poke at, no display glowing at night, and a smaller body tucked behind the mirror. You set it up and review clips in the VIOFO app, which also means pulling footage to your phone over Wi-Fi rather than squinting at a 2.4-inch display.

A screen helps at install time. Aiming a 210° cabin lens so it covers both rear seat positions without filling the frame with headliner is easier when you can see the picture live on the unit, as on the A329S 3CH or the N5S’s 3.19-inch display. After that, most drivers set the screen to switch off.

Whichever you choose, mount the cabin camera where passengers can see it. A visible camera deters trouble, and it backs up the notice that passengers were told they were on camera if a dispute follows. Pair it with the window notice described above.

Which rideshare dash cam should you buy?

  • Most drivers: VIOFO A229 Ultra 3CH.
  • You drive mostly at night: VIOFO T330 3CH.
  • You want a 2K cabin camera and a screen: VIOFO A329S 3CH.
  • Minivan or three-row SUV: Vantrue N5S.
  • Passenger evidence is the priority: BlackVue Elite 10 Cabin.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best dash cam for Uber and Lyft?

On our rubric, the VIOFO A229 Ultra 3CH. It scores 9.7, ahead of four other VIOFO 3-channel cams at 9.3, because it's the only one with 4K on both exterior cameras. If you drive mostly at night, the T330 3CH pairs a 2K cabin camera and IR LEDs with HDR on every channel.

Do I need a 3-channel dash cam for rideshare?

Yes. A front camera can't record a passenger dispute, and a 2-channel cam with a cabin camera loses the rear view. Three channels covers the road ahead, the car behind and the back seat.

Do I have to tell passengers I'm recording?

It depends on your state and on whether you record audio. Federal law allows recording a conversation you're part of, but states like California require all parties' consent for confidential conversations. A visible notice is the simplest safeguard.

Which rideshare dash cam has the best night cabin camera?

For resolution, the BlackVue Elite 10 Cabin, with a 4K infrared interior camera. For a full 3-channel setup, the VIOFO T330 3CH, whose 2K cabin camera has IR LEDs.

How do I power a dash cam for a 10-hour shift?

Hardwire it to the fuse box with the maker's hardwire kit. It frees the 12V socket for phone charging, keeps cables hidden from passengers, and enables parking mode between shifts.
